*Footwear

As we move into warmer weather, students are starting to wear footwear that is not appropriate for school. Slippers and flip flops are not appropriate for school at any time. For student safety, footwear must be closed toed and have support at the heel. This will prevent many slips and falls during recess. I have had this conversation with our students several times but some continue to bring them, citing that they do not have anything else. Moving forward students will be sent to the office for not being in uniform and appropriate footwear will have to be brought to school.

Lastly, students are required to have indoor and outdoor footwear. Indoor footwear is considered footwear that can also be worn in the gymnasium for physical education. Students are tracking dirt into my classroom and it is slowing killing my soul.

*Play at St. Sebastian's

You may have already noticed that there is a charge on School Cash Online for a play in May. In a few weeks, we will be travelling to St. Sebastian's to watch their school production of Willy Wonka Jr. Please pay the fee on School Cash Online to cover the entrance and the bus fees. A permission form will go out this week.

*Cell phones

There have been a few incidents regarding mobile devices in the recent past. We have always had specific rules regarding mobile devices, but they will be enforced much more stringently moving forward.
1- Cellphone usage

Although cellphones are permitted on school grounds, they are not to be accessed while at school, unless under direct supervision by a staff member. This includes when coming off of the bus, during the school day, and on the way to the bus at the end of the day. This also includes during activities that occur either before or after school hours. Cellphones are to be given to the teachers at the beginning of class, and returned to the students at the end of the day. This practice has been going on for years.

2- Consequences
Students who are caught accessing their mobile devices while on school grounds will have them confiscated and brought to the office. The devices will have to be picked up by a parent either during the day or at the end of the day.

3- Contacting our students

As it has been for the past many decades, if you need to contact your child during school hours, this should be done through the main office. Parents who need to pick up students must let the office know, otherwise, the policy is for the teacher to prepare the student for their regular end of the day routine. If you receive a text from a student in the day, that student is probably in violation of the cellphone policy.
4- Please have this conversation with your child

Please have a conversation with your child regarding the cellphone policy. This way, it solidifies the notion that both parent and child have an understanding of the cellphone expectations, especially in relation to device confiscation.

*Dress Down Day (Friday, April  26th).
There is a dress down day this Friday.

Google Translate Mobile App
Google has a great mobile app to help you translate English into any language except for Wookie.  It has three separate functions, the most interesting of which is the ability to use your mobile camera to translate various texts into English instantaneously on your screen. Although the translations are not perfect, it is more than enough to give user a good idea of what is being said.
